6.15.09: My sketchbook was featured on the great site, Book By Its Cover on Friday. Thanks so much, Julia! It's an honored to be featured on your site. You can check out the post here.
5.28.09: I just found out that my portraits of Gianni Botsford & Smiljan Radic for Architectural Record's Vanguard Issue were chosen for American Illustration 28! Thanks so much to my great art directors at Architectural Record, Kristofer Rabasca and Francesca Messina, for entering the pieces
.....

5.18.09: The beautiful Taiwanese illustration & design magazine, DPI, featured an interview with me in this month's issue! I felt especially priviledged when I noticed this issue also featured interviews with Tomer Hanuka, John Hendrix, and Fifi Lapin - three illustrators I adore. Thank you so much for the great company, equisite layout and fantastic opportunity, DPI! You rock.
4 .8.09: I finally added a sketchbook section to the bottom of the navigation menu. click there, or here, to see the sorts of things I draw just for fun.
3.25.09: I want to thank Erin from Design for Mankind for posting about my illustration work! If you've never checked out Design for Mankind, you should, it's a pretty rad blog!
3.2.09: I finally finished updating the "personal work" section of the website. Most of the pieces are the same ones that were in the "fine art" section of the earlier incarnation of this site, but I added a few new ones at the beginning of the portrait section. Those are from a series of commissions I'm in the middle of completing for Von Deren Films. They will eventually form a part her website called the "gallery of beauties".
2.11.09: Last week, I got one of the best and most random e-mails I've ever received. A guy named Curt liked one of my old Baltimore Citypaper astrology illustrations enough to get it permanently tattooed on his shoulder! He told me that he'd been carrying around the torn out illustration in his wallet for two years waiting to get it done. That's pretty rad. Here's a photo he sent me:

The tattoo was worked on by Hunter Spanks of Saints and Sinners Tattoo in Fells Point (Baltimore). You can see the illustration it was based upon here. I was so delighted to hear about Curt's tattoo that I agreed to contine the drawing so he can eventually turn it into a half-sleeve. Awesome.
116.09: The big news is that I've FINALLY revamped my website. After many months of claiming that I was going to. Looking at it now, I realize that it's kind of candy-colored. I think it's just because it's in the dead of Winter and I'm craving Spring and sweet colors. Either way, hopefully this will entice me back to update more.
A few of the new illustrations i've added include:
A set of black + white line portraits created for the December Vanguard issue of Architecural Review. I had a great time working on them and the designer mentioned that this was the first time they've included illustrations in their magazine!
Also, a piece that I created for slate.com's coverage of the presidential inaugeration. This went along with a 5 part fictional novella about random encounters caused by attending the inaugeration. I was excited to be illustrating such a historic event.
There are probably a few other new ones scattered along the way as well. You'll just have to look through the sections and see!
1.1.09: Happy new year!
11.28. 08: I want to thank the Canadian blog, ta2, for featuring my work in their "muse" section today. You can check it out here.
8..22.08: i've ignored my poor website over the last few months, but i have good excuses. i married this guy. then we took a week long road trip down the coast of california. but, now i'm finally back to my old illustration routine and promise more updates and that long-promised site re-design. hope you all had a good summer as well!
4.27.08: added a couple of new images to all three of the illustration sections (i know i said i'd be updating more often...but.....yeah). a re-design of the site is still in the plans, i've just been working like crazy lately.
2.7.08: it's been forever since my last update due to my old laptop breaking. but, i have a shiny new laptop, a new version of dreamweaver (which means this old web design will be getting a much needed upgrade soon) and a ton of new illustrations. i've already added a couple of new ones to the editorial and black & white sections. hopefully i'll get around to adding the rest soon!
10.29.07: i added two new illustration images - one in the editorial section and one in the black and white section.
the first was a christmas themed assignment for delaware today magazine and the second was a portrait of michelle tea, to go along with a review of one of her books in the baltimore citypaper.
have a happy halloween!
8.8.07: it's been forever since i've updated, just 'cause i've been extremely busy with work lately. i added a couple of new pieces at the end of the portrait section;
- a drawing of neo from the matrix that was among a series of hero and villain portraits for kono magazine, a kids' martial arts magazine.
-and one of will.i.am, from the black eyed peas, that went along with a critique of his solo album in l.a. weekly
i also added a new piece to the black and white section:
- a cd cover for an indie, folk rock duo called st. mannequins. i'm working on the back cover now, but once it's finished, i'll put it up, too. in the meantime check out their music, it's good stuff.
6.16.07: NEW PHONE NUMBER!
sorry for any inconveniance this might cause, but i recently had to change phone numbers. now if you need to reach me, my phone number is:
267.441.2232
not nearly as easy to remember as my old one, but this one actually coincides with the city i live in. and if all of the number switching is too much for you to handle just send me an e-mail - it's the method i prefer anyway.
6.14.07: just added a couple of new pieces to the editorial section. one is the promo image for a one act play called, "The Terrible Girls", written by Jacqueline Goldfinger. it will be performing at the NYC international fringe festival in August and you can find more info about it onJackie's site.
5.2.07: i haven't updated in FOREVER, so here's tons of new news.
firstly - just found out that i had a piece chosen for the american illustration competition. yay!
secondly - thank you so much to John Breakey and to the students at The Delaware College of Art and Design for inviting me to come speak. you were extremely welcoming and made me really enjoy my visit!
thirdly - i've been working on 10 black and white illustrations for an anti-smoking book called "let's clear the air" for lobster press, a canadian publishing company. it's aimed at 9-12 year old kids and has been keeping me very busy. hopefully i'll be able to put up some of the finished drawings soon.
and lastly - i've added a bunch of new illustrations: some citypaper work in the "black and white" section, a piece that's going to be on the cover of "school counselor's magazine" and another that's going to be an advertisement for federal hill (a fun, boutique-filled part of baltimore) in the editorial section, and a sketch that was part of an advertising pitch for fireman's fund insurance company. they ended up going in a different direction, but since i still like the drawing, it's going up! also, i added two pieces that are part of an accordion-fold promo that i've been working on intermittently since the beginning of the year. someday i'll finally finish it. enjoy!
2.28.07: finally put a couple of new pieces up in the editoral section. i'm working on a new promo piece that I'll hopefully be finished with soon and can put up as well.
1.16.07: happy belated new year!
i finally got around to adding some more new work in the editorial and black and white sections.
in exciting non-work related news, i recently got engaged to my boyfriend of 5 years, jesse, a fellow illustrator and MICA grad!
......
oh, and check out my boyfriend's illustration site. he just redid it to look like 80s arcade games. it's totally rad. www.jesseturnbull.com
5.24.06: it's been a while since i updated, but i've been busy working on a lot of illustrations this month and i added four of them to the site today.
4.26.06: my "misfits of 80s cinema" trading cards won 2nd place in the series illustration catagory of the alternative pick awards! and 3 of them are going to be displayed at crobar in new york along with the other winning images on may 19. awesome!
2.27.06: thank you to allan comport and his conversations in illustration students at the maryland institute, college of art for letting me come speak to your class
